Poor Nutrition in the US: Slow Progress and Room for Improvement

A recent study analyzed two decades of nutritional data and found a glimmer of hope amid America’s struggle with poor nutrition and its associated health problems. The research revealed that while there has been some improvement in Americans’ understanding of nutrition, progress has stagnated since 2010. The study defined a poor diet as one high in refined grains, processed meat, sugary beverages, and ultraprocessed foods. Shockingly, the intake of fruits and vegetables remained unchanged over the 20-year period. Experts emphasize the urgent need for further improvements in diet quality to combat obesity, diabetes, and other related diseases.
